A Time of Gratitude and Giving at Solomon Corporation
December 15, 2015
For many, the month of November is a time to focus on the things we’re most grateful for and an opportunity to give back to others. With this in mind, throughout the month of November employees at Solomon Corporation’s locations in Solomon, Kansas; Decatur, Tennessee; Georgetown, Texas; and Grand Junction, Colorado, will volunteer time and donate personal resources through Red Cross blood drives and food drives benefiting local shelters in the area. November is also a time when Solomon Corporation proudly recognizes the valor and contributions of our employee members of the Armed Forces.
Veteran’s Day Celebrations
On Wednesday, Nov. 11, Solomon Corporation will highlight the contributions of our veteran employees. Declared a national holiday by President Woodrow Wilson in 1919, the day originally recognized Armistice Day, which signaled the end of World War I on Nov. 11, 1918. Solomon Corporation will celebrate the day by honoring the company’s veterans at all Solomon’s locations with a special Veteran’s Day-edition of the company newsletter. The special edition will highlight Solomon’s veterans of past conflicts along with the branches they served. The newsletter will also include vintage photographs donated by the staff. During the day’s celebration, employees will also enjoy donuts in the shops. A concurrent Red Cross fundraiser held during the day will benefit veterans’ needs.
Solomon Corporation Blood Drive
Each quarter throughout the year, Solomon Corporation hosts blood drives through the local Red Cross chapter. Blood collected during the Red Cross donation days will be safely processed, tested, stored and distributed to nearby hospitals. Each pint donation collected during a drive has the potential to save up to three lives. Solomon Corporation is proud to be a regular Red Cross supporter.
Feeding those in the Local Community
In addition to the Red Cross blood drive, the Solomon, Kansas, location will also sponsor a food drive benefitting the Salina Rescue Mission. During last year’s food drive, Solomon Corporation employees contributed more than two tons of food. Collected food will help re-stock the shelter’s dwindling food pantry and provide provisions for upcoming holiday community dinners such as the Thanksgiving Celebration on Saturday, Nov. 21, and the Christmas Celebration on Saturday, Dec. 19. Solomon employees in Grand Junction, Decatur, and Georgetown will also host food drives to benefit their local communities.
