Solomon, Continually Raising The Bar On Safety

May 31, 2015

Safety is the cornerstone of everything Solomon does. As an eight-year member of the National Safety Council, Solomon is continually on the lookout for ways to renew its commitment to safety for our workers and our customers. This commitment shows through national recognition from the National Safety Council’s Million Work Hours Award and continuing efforts to enhance safety standards through the efforts of our employees and physical workplace improvements.

PAYING IT FORWARD THROUGH TEAMWORK

In an effort to make safety a priority for all, Solomon Corporation believes it’s critical to support the people doing the work. This is why Solomon is proud to sponsor one of the four lineman scholarships for the 32nd annual International Lineman’s Rodeo. The lineman scholarship assists students entering into electrical lineman training school.

This year’s October event will include a rodeo, safety and training conference, and an awards banquet. Held in Bonner Springs, Kansas, at the National Agriculture Center & Hall of Fame, the rodeo recognizes the importance of line work and the safety, education, and skill of electric linemen. Each rodeo team will consist of three participants – two linemen (a qualified Journeymen) and one ground man (a non-climbing participant). Teams for the contest include Investor-Owned Utilities; EMC, REA and REC; Municipals; Contractors; Seniors; and active duty, guard or reserves Military personnel. Entry into the competition is open to practicing, working linemen.

Score One for Safety

Team events at the Lineman’s rodeo include the Hurt Man Rescue (simulated hot on a 40 foot pole), 40 foot Pole Climb, and Two Mystery events. Apprentices will also complete a 50-question written test. Each rodeo team will be judged on equipment handing, neatness and ability, safety, work practices, and timely completion of each event.
